GROOMING
Corgis are a double coated breed and require regular grooming to keep their coats healthy and manageable. Grooming routines are a great way to bond with your new puppy while creating a trustful, respectful relationship. A weekly brush and comb, fortnightly nail clip and monthly bath will keep your corgi looking beautiful, shiny and ready for whatever adventure awaits you both.
HOT TIPS
NEVER shave a corgi coat. The undercoat is designed to insulate and the outer coat is designed to protect. To remove the hair will cause discomfort and create a nightmare for you and your dog.
“if you wouldn’t use it on your hair, then dont use it on your dogs coat”.
During a seasonal shed of the undercoat, conditioner can be used to help loosen the hair however it is not needed for regular grooming. The outer coat is meant to be coarse to repel dirt and grime, the under coat is naturally soft for insulation.

Essentials
STEEL COMB
Steel Comb with fine and coarse pins. A must have to keep the undercoat tangle free and keep the skin healthy. FYI, not all combs are designed the same, you will need a comb that will work through the coat to the skin. Some will glide through the topcoat without getting to the under coat and some are sharp which will scratch the skin. My recommendation is the Plush Puppy 7.5”comb 50% fine 50% coarse pins. This comb is worth the investment, it will last you a lifetime
Bristle or pin bursh to get rid of loose hair and style the coat. Be careful not to get a wiry brush that tears the coat and makes the dogs uncomfortable. Especially as puppies, we need them to enjoy the experience. My recommendation is the Plush Puppy Anti-Static Porcupine Brush. A good quality brush that both you and your puppy will enjoy
BRISTLE OR PIN BRUSH
WATER SPRAY BOTTLE /
DETANGLING SPRAY
Grooming Spray that repels dirt, detangles knots and makes brushing easier. This is great product for regular brushing as it hydrates the coat reducing stress and coat loss
Dampen or mist your corgis coat with water prior to combing or brushing. This will prevent tearing the coat and help you groom all the way through the coat.
SHAMPOO
Shampoo selection is entirely what you like and what smells good to you. For maintenance bathing, I recommend the Plush Puppy All Purpose Shampoo with Henna.
For show grooming or to have stella whites, I recommend the the herbal whitening shampoo or wonder block in conjunction with your regular shampoo
NAIL CLIPPERS
I cant stress enouh the importance of keeping your corgis nails short. Long nails will cause them to not track and move correctly, they will also tend to slip on surfaces leading to muscle and ligament problems. Long nails can get caught on objects or carpet which cause them to tear causing lameness.
FOOT TRIMMERS/
SCISSORS
Long hair on the pads of the feet can be removed by a foot trimmer or scissors. The extra hair will pick up mud which will ball in the pads or cause slipping on tiles or polished floors.
Hair trimmers are quiet, quick and you don’t need to worry about accidentally cutting the paw pads as with scissors
